Research Promotion Article

Fellow ASHRAE Members,

My name is Eric Krieg and I am the Research Promotion Chair for your Detroit Chapter for the 2014-2015 year. Last year was a very successful year for ASHRAE as a society and our chapter in terms of raising money for research, scholarships, endowments, YEA and the general fund. As a chapter we were able to raise $22,800 which exceeded our chapter goal by $1,300. I want to personally thank each of you for your support in helping to reach, and exceed our goal.

Until I took the position as Research Chair, I really didn’t know that much about the different aspects of ASHRAE, how each are funded and how money is allocated, but after attending training I’ve learned that donating to ASHRAE is a worthwhile endeavor. Last year alone, $1,859,272 was raised for ASHRAE Research Projects and for every $1 donated by any ASHRAE member to research, almost $50 was invested in funding research projects in the state of Michigan. ASHRAE also received $53,679 in scholarship donations to give to deserving candidates. And finally, every dollar donated to ASHRAE is used in its entirety for that purpose, absolutely no donated money is used to pay for administration costs or overhead.

ASHRAE is an extremely important society for all of us in this industry and everyone in the world who benefits from its buildings technology standards. If you have donated in the past, thank you. And if you haven’t donated, please take the time to consider donating. Donations can be made at www.ashrae.org/contribute or can be made by cash or check at any society meeting.

The December meeting will be Donor Recognition Night and look out for future emails about exciting events that are in the works.
